The biggest Risk is not taking a Risk.
The ability to take calculated risks, it turns out, is actually an essential human trait, crucial to our development as a species and as individuals, say experts. Our risk-taking ancestors were the survivors, the daring ones who took chances to adapt to a changing environment. Today, the same principle applies, says social worker and family therapist Michael Ungar, Ph.D., a professor at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. "To grow, we need to experience challenges -- whether we're 4, 14, or 40." Taking intelligent risks gives us competitive edge. Here are some reasons why one should take risks in life:
Unforeseen opportunities often come from risk-taking.
Taking risks shows confidence and helps you stand out.
We learn from risks and those lessons may lead us on an important, new path.
You don’t achieve your dreams by playing it safe.
Embracing risk-taking helps you overcome a fear of failure.
Some people call me a risk-taker whereas I don’t feel like one. Yes, I used to roam alone during nights, in the haunted places located in my city New Delhi, play cricket without guards, talking to strange people without any concern and live a carefree life with some regrets ( https://www.holidify.com/blog/haunted-places-in-delhi/ ). This reflection is to present one situation where we have taken risks in our lives but I personally don’t think I have much risks in my live. And even if I have, they are not worth mentioning. But now I am going to tell you a secret, Shhhhhh…. I am actually afraid of heights like any other normal person. But what would a normal person do? Try to avoid heights as much as possible. Guess what I have planned to do in order to overcome my fear? I am actually taking a risk and have registered for a skydive where I would jump from 10000 feet above the ground. It is scheduled for 22nd of April’ 2017. Currently I am really scared. This might not sound scary to you but for me, this is an actual risk I am taking with my life and don’t know how will I feel after I am done. This by far will be the most challenging thing I would do in my life. I don’t even know why am I doing this but now there isn’t any backing off or maybe there is but I won’t. I want to experience how it feels like after you have successfully overcome your biggest fear. The result is still to be announced after the dive and hopefully it turns out to be positive. Getting out of the comfort zone will hopefully result in a reward.
